 First Nepal plane crash victim is named as Russian travel blogger, 33: Passenger posted selfie from her seat with message 'Go to Nepal' before Yeti Airline aircraft came down on route from Kathmandu to tourist town. Her social media was today full of messages of condolences, and she was described as 'the brightest, kindest soul we knew'. The tragic blogger worked as a social media manager and travelled widely. Three other Russians died on the flight, named as Viktoria Altunina, Yuri Lugin and Viktor Lagin. Earlier the Russian ambassador to Nepal, Alexei Novikov, confirmed the death of four compatriots aboard the crashed plane. 'Unfortunately, four citizens of the Russian Federation died,' he said. 'We are in constant contact with the Nepalese authorities and will provide all necessary assistance to the relatives of the dead Russians.'  A  dangerous wanted man Michael Smith took a swipe at the authorities by going under a post made by the police on Facebook meant to fish him out and dropped a mockery comment. Michael Smith, 37, from Chandler's Ford in Hampshire, is wanted by police on recall to prison, after going missing on Saturday. Police described him as white, 6ft tall, and of an athletic build. He remains missing.  In a bizarre turn of events, Smith then took to the comments on Hampshire Constabulary's Facebook page to say:  'Thanks for the athletic build comments see you wet wipes Tuesday". The comment attracted 62 laugh reacts before it was removed, according to the Hampshire Chronicle.  Other Facebook users also took to the comments to express their amusement at the appeal.  A second Mike Smith even commented on the post, saying: 'Not me (or one of my relatives) - I'm a tad older that 37, not 6'' tall and those who know me would maybe agree I am not quite as big a build!'

 Anambra state governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has pleaded with the Nigerian government to  release Nnamdi Kanu Immediately and unconditionally.   Prof. Soludo made the appeal  at a political gathering in Awka Anambra State on Saturday, January 14.  At least 40 people have been confirmed dead after a domestic flight crashed in Pokhara in Nepal on Sunday, January 15, 2023.   Hundreds of rescue workers were scouring the hillside where the plane carrying 72 people from the capital Kathmandu, went down. Yeti Airlines, which operated the flight, said there were 72 people onboard – 68 passengers and four crew. According to an airport official, the foreign nationals on board included: one Australian, one French, one Argentinian, four Russians, five Indians, two South Koreans and one person from Ireland. "We expect to recover more bodies,” said an army spokesperson, Krishna Bhandari, said. “The plane has broken into pieces."  The plane crashed between the old and new Pokhara airports in central Nepal.  Footage shared on social media, which appeared to be shot just after the crash, showed raging flames on the ground and black smoke billowing into the sky from debris strewn across the crash site. Mr Femi is the comic actor behind the popular Papa Ajasco, a Television drama by Wale Adenuga production. A man jailed in Arizona is facing a murder charge in connection with the disappearance of a four-year-old Oklahoma girl that he had been caring for as the search continues for the missing child. Ivon Adams, 36, and his estranged wife Alysia Adams, 31, had been caring for missing Athena Brownfield, 4, and her older sister Adina, 5, when she vanished.  Adams was arrested on Thursday in Arizona on one count charge of child neglect in the case of Athena Brownfield, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said. Police said in a post to Facebook on Friday evening that 36-year-old Adams is now facing one count of First Degree murder but did not give further details about what led to the charge. Legend, 44, shared the news while performing at a private concert on Friday night, telling the crowd that he and his wife just welcomed a new baby.  'What a blessed day,' the singer said, adding that although he 'didn't get a lot of sleep' he felt energized after being by spending 'a lot of time' by Chrissy's side at the hospital.

 The group chief executive officer, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation  NNPC Mele Kyari, has announced the discovery of oil in Nasarawa State.   Kyari said the official spud-in of first oil well in the state will commence in two months.  An SUV driver gets a nasty surprise after a customer notices something unusual on the car bonnet during a visit to a McDonald's drive-through.  The young driver had been ordering at the drive-through at a McDonald's in Heatherbrae in the Hunter region, in NSW. Another customer standing outside noticed something odd before deciding to film their discovery. Footage shows a snake stuck in the bonnet of the car and curled across the front of it. The driver appears completely oblivious and continues to drive out of the lane.  He is later stopped by other customers and told about the snake attached to the front of his vehicle. The driver had been travelling across the state and had made a pitstop along the way. The snake is understood to have hitched a ride and clung onto the bonnet for the next four hours before the car pulled into McDonald's

The police in Lagos state have arrested a woman who is the biological mother of two young kids aged 5 and 2, alleged to have been abused by her and her partner. She was arrested alongside her partner.   The suspects identified as Busola Oyediran and her partner, Akebiara Emmanuel, were arrested on Friday, January 13, by the police following reports by neighbours.   Concerned neighbours had alerted the police of the consant physical torture of the minors by their biological mother and her partner. Following the report, the police stormed the Egbeda/Idimu Lagos State, home of the couple and arrested both. The police proceeded to the hospital where the neighbours had taken the battered children for medical care.   When confronted, their mother Busola claimed the children had a motorcycle accident insisting they fell from a motorbike and suffered serious injuries.  Sadly Lisa Marie Presley, could not make it after suffering cardiac arrest, she was 54.  Her bereaved mom Priscilla Presley confirms the news saying 'my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us' Priscilla was on her bedside and confirmed at some point she was receiving the best care. Lisa Marie was rushed to the hospital after she suffered cardiac arrest suspected to have been caused by drug overdose. Presley was found unresponsive in her bedroom by her housekeeper, according to reports, her ex-husband, Danny Keough, who she has been living with, performed CPR until paramedics arrived at the house. Indian authority has arrested a Nigerian drug kingpin, Folarin Abdulazees Andoyi, for possession of cocaine worth Rs 2.16 crore, is being seen as the biggest and most crucial action of the anti-narcotics cell of Pune City police, India, in 2022.   Police said 50-year-old Andoyi, a mechanical engineer, had been active in the cocaine racket for over a decade and had been arrested twice in the past. Indian Express reported on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, that the crimes that he had been nabbed for, were not the reason Andoyi first arrived in the country over a decade ago.   The federal government has announced its plan to engage Nigerian doctors and nurses in the diaspora and connect them with universities and hospitals in the country.   Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire disclosed this on Tuesday, January 10, during the 17th edition of the President Muhammadu Buhari (PMB) Administration” Scorecard Series (2015-2023).   Speaking at the event, Ehanire admitted that experienced doctors and nurses are leaving the country because they feel they are not properly rewarded for the work they are doing. The Minister added that the federal government is trying to address the issue by improving the conditions of service for medical personnel. 'A whole new world': NASA's James Webb discovers its first PLANET just 41 light-years away - and it is similar to Earth. NASA's James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has discovered its first planet - and the rocky world is similar to our own. Formally classified as LHS 475 b., the exoplanet is 99 percent of Earth's diameter and while it is terrestrial, scientists do not yet know if it has an atmosphere. Although the team cannot conclude what is present, they have ruled out a thick methane-dominated atmosphere similar to that of Saturn's moon Titan. JWST revealed that the planet, which sits 41 light-years away, is a few hundred degrees warmer than Earth and completes an orbit in two days. There is still much to learn about LHS 475 b., such exoplanets have remained 'invisible' to space telescopes, but JWST proves again just how powerful its technology is.  The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors NARD has issued threat to embark on a nationwide strike if the federal government does not meet its demands.   The group conveyed its decision in a letter to the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire on Monday January 9, and signed by its president, Dr Emeka Innocent Orji. According to the group, the strike would commence if the issues are not addressed before its January 2023 National Executive Council NEC meeting which is coming up on  January 24th to 28th.  The Central Bank of Nigeria CBN, has urged commercial banks to comply with the directive of loading the newly redesigned naira notes in their Automated Teller Machines ATMs or face legal charges. CBN Director, Currency Operations, Mr Ahmed Umar, stated this in Abuja on Monday, Jan. 9. Umar, who spoke at the Training Session for State Directors, National Orientation Agency NOA on Redesign of Currency Notes Policy, said commercial banks should stop putting old notes in ATMs or face a penalty. According to Umar, the CBN’s directive was to implement the January 31 deadline withdrawal of old naira notes in circulation. Umar said: "We, CBN management, have mandated banks to stop putting old notes in their ATM machines, they should only put the new notes. And there is a serialisation of the policy that they can put either N500, N1000 or N200 notes whichever denomination they have or combination of any of those notes, they should just put a new note in their machines".  "Hencef

Harvey Weinstein's L.A. sentencing is delayed as his lawyers seek new trial after he was found guilty of rape and sexual assault   The disgraced movie mogul was found guilty of rape and other counts of sexual assault in December. It was his second conviction; he was notoriously found guilty of rape and sexual assault in February 2020.  Weinstein, 70, is currently serving a 23-year prison sentence in New York. His lawyers are appealing that conviction.    In a second challenge to the courts, his attorneys are now also seeking a new trial in California.  Their intention to file that request is what has delayed Weinstein's second sentencing. He is facing 18 years in prison on the charges he was convicted of.  Weinstein, who has always pleaded not guilty to every charge, was convicted on December 19 of forcible rape, forcible oral copulation and sexual penetration by a foreign object of a woman identified in court as Jane Doe #1.   A Louisiana mom fatally shot a man  after the suspect broke into her house while she was home with her two young children on Sunday, January 8  2023, police said.    According to the local Sheriff's office, the suspect, Robert Rheams, allegedly broke into the woman's residence on Klein Road in Tangipahoa Parish, armed with a shovel and lug wrench in the early morning hours. Rheams, 51, was shot dead by the woman in an attempt to protect her family, after he got into a physical scuffle with her  inside her home. During the struggle, she shot him dead around 5 a.m., according to Chief Jimmy Travis. The home intruder, who was said to be out on parole after serving two decades in prison for armed robbery, was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said he was also the suspect in a carjacking hours before he broke into the family’s home.
